What is it?
Library PressDisplay from NewspaperDirect, Inc. provides unique online access to today's newspapers from around the world in full-color, full-page format. Read newspapers in the original format with all the ads, articles, comics, and features found in the original print publications.
What Will I find?

The ever-expanding collection currently includes over 1700 titles. Titles usually offer a 60-day backfile, and include articles as well as other key content, such as advertisements, classifieds, and notices. From the library website, click Research / Premium site / choose NewspaperDirect PressDisplay
Getting Around
Select a newspaper: Use the right menu Newspaper tab to select a title for viewing.
By Country
- Newspapers are sorted by country of publication. Select a country name and available titles are listed in left panes.
By Language
- Newspapers are sorted by the language in which the content is written. Select a language and available titles are listed in the left panes.
Alphabetically
- Newspapers are sorted by the first letter of the publication name.
Selecting an Issue:
- Clicking a newspaper title from any list automatically opens the most current issue for the paper.
Previous Issues
- Once a newspaper has been selected, a Calendar menu with the current issue’s date appears at the top of the screen.
- Select the Calendar menu and choose any date with black numbering. A 60 day archive is available for most titles.
How to Navigate
Navigating Pages
- Viewing Pages
- Use numbered tabs at page corners to turn the page forward or backward through the issue.
- A Thumbnails tab on the right previews each page of the issue. Click any thumbnail image to jump to that page.
- At the bottom of the screen, you can toggle among several viewing modes: one-page, two-page, or all thumbnails.
Zooming- Click on an image to zoom in. You can also select the magnifying glass at bottom of screen. Additional magnification levels are also available here.)
- Click and drag to move the zoomed area. (You can also click and drag the orange box on the thumbnail to the right.)
- To turn off zoom mode, click the magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen (or the x at the top corner of the enlarged image).
Searching:- The right menu in PressDisplay offers a Search tab where you can enter simple keyword queries. Ex.: Find references to Iraq in today’s issue of the Washington Post.
- From the PressDisplay home page, select the Newspapers tab and sort titles by Country, selecting USA.
- Scroll through available papers, and select Washington Post. The current issue opens automatically.
- Select the Search tab on the right, enter the term Iraq. Run the search.<</li>
- Pages containing the word Iraq are listed below the search. Click a page to view. (Word matches are highlighted in red within the image.)
Search Notes:- Searches can be run across any issue, but it is not possible to search multiple issues or papers in a single search.
- In addition to article text, words may be found in advertisements, image captions, listings for stocks, TV, or sports, etc.
- Only single keywords or short phrases are accepted. No Boolean operators, truncation, stemming or other advanced search functionality is supported.
- Printing
- In order to print an article in text format, please click on article's headline in any newspaper that is featured with Smart Navigation. After the new text window opened up, you can click on the 'printer' in the toolbar of the new window in order to print the article. You may also copy the full text and move it to a Word document and print from there.
Print the whole page- Ensure your page margins are set to zero by doing the following in your Internet browser.
- Click file
- Select page setup
- Set all four margins to zero (0). Please note, your browser may change this setting to a small number instead of zero.
- Click OK

Login Help
Be sure
- You have an Arlington Public Library Card and you have a PIN
- Your account has not expired and has no excessive fines and fees
- To type all 12 or 14 digits of your library card number. Be sure to enter “2020″ before older card numbers less than 12 digits
- To enter a username exactly as you set it.
