Virtual Kids Club: Fall 2020

Activity

Create a Hideaway

It is starting to get colder outside so it's the perfect time to make an indoor fort. Gather up whatever you have around your house or apartment and get ready to have some fun!

Blanket Fort

  • Gather a few blankets or sheets and some clips (such as clips for chip bags or clothespins) and maybe a chair or two. You can even make your fort over a table.
  • Drape the blankets or sheets over the chairs or over your bed with pillows to up the blankets on either end.
    • Get creative! Can you make a fort with one blanket? Multiple?
    • How does draping blankets/sheets over different items of furniture change its structure?

Cardboard Fort

  • For this project gather cardboard of different sizes and shapes, tape, and scissors.
  • Create 3 walls and a ceiling by cutting your cardboard (adult assistance may be required!) and taping it together. Duct or very strong packing tape will work best to hold your fort together.
    • If you have a very large box, you can cut a hole in the front for a door/entrance. To create a roof, you can drape a blanket over the top of your box.
  • Hang a blanket or a sheet over the entrance for a door.
  • Decorate your cardboard fort with art supplies like markers, paint, or crayons.

Reading Nook Fort

  • Transform your fort (blanket or cardboard) into your own cozy reading nook.
  • Add blankets, pillows, and of course lots of books! If you have a strand of twinkle lights to add, have your adult help you plug them in and tape or clip to the ceiling.
