Course Description

Structured Query Language (SQL) is a widely-used programming languages for small data and big data, for enterprise software and personal blogs, and for basic reporting and commercial data pipelines. This course will teach students the fundamentals of databases and SQL, including selecting, filtering, and grouping data. Students will also learn how to use databases on their personal computers.

In this class, students will learn:

  • Basic database concepts
  • Selecting data from database tables
  • Filtering data
  • Aggregating data
  • Joining data from multiple database tables
  • Basic SQL functions
  • Basic administrative tools
  • Resources for setting up databases on their personal computers


Prerequisites: Basic PC skills and comfort navigating the web

No prior programming experience is needed
