About

The Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) was founded on August 10, 1971, in Cooperstown, New York, by L. Robert Davids and 15 fellow baseball researchers. Since its inception, SABR has grown to include more than 7,500 members around the world, ranging from passionate fans to professional writers, broadcasters, officials, and even former players. Its mission is to promote the research and appreciation of baseball’s rich history, intricate statistics, and vibrant cultural impact.

  • The Sporting News Archives: Access over 189,000 digitized pages of The Sporting News (1886–2003) and other publications.
  • Newspapers.com World Collection: Archive includes 10,000+ newspaper titles from the U.S., Canada, and beyond, dating back to the 1700s.
  • Historical Black Newspapers (ProQuest): Explore primary sources from 12 influential African American newspapers, including the Chicago Defender and Pittsburgh Courier.
  • Oral History Collection: Listen to 800+ interviews with players, executives, scouts, and fans.
  • The Baseball Index: Search over 260,000 citations of baseball literature.

How to access the SABR Archive

To access SABR content at Arlington Public Library, patrons should go to the Information Desk on the second floor of Central Library. A staff member will assist by logging them into a public computer with access to the SABR resources.
